والعِمَارة والعَمارةُ: أَصغر مِنَ الْقَبِيلَةِ، وَقِيلَ: هُوَ الحيُّ الْعَظِيمُ الَّذِي يَقُومُ بِنَفْسِهِ، يَنْفَرِدُ بِظَعْنِها وإِقامتها ونُجْعَتِها، وَهِيَ مِنَ الإِنسان الصَّدْرُ، سُمِّي الحيُّ الْعَظِيمُ عِمَارة بعِمارة الصَّدْرِ، وَجَمْعُهَا عَمَائِرُ؛
