والسَّاحِل: رِيفُ الْبَحْرِ، فاعِلٌ بِمَعْنَى مَفْعُولٍ لأَن الْمَاءَ سَحَلَه أَي قَشَره أَو عَلاه، وَحَقِيقَتُهُ أَنه ذُو سَاحِلٍ مِنَ الْمَاءِ إِذا ارْتَفَع المَدُّ ثُمَّ جَزَر فَجَرف مَا مَرَّ عَلَيْهِ
