Having a short nose, slightly raised at the tip; Lisān says the word began as a description of gazelles and wild cattle.

وَالرَّجُلُ أَخْنَسُ والمرأَة خَنْساءُ، وَالْجَمْعُ خُنْسٌ، وَقِيلَ: هُوَ قِصَرُ الأَنف وَلُزُوقُهُ بِالْوَجْهِ، وأَصله فِي الظِّبَاءِ وَالْبَقَرِ، خَنِسَ خَنَساً وَهُوَ أَخْنَسُ، وَقِيلَ: الأَخْنس الَّذِي قَصُرَتْ قَصَبته وارتدَّت أَرنبته إِلى قَصَبَتِهِ، وَالْبَقَرُ كُلُّهَا خُنْسٌ، وأَنف الْبَقَرِ أَخْنَسُ لَا يَكُونُ إِلا هَكَذَا، وَالْبَقَرَةُ خَنْساءُ، والتُّرك خُنْسٌ؛
