What the scholars said about this name
The Prophet ﷺ changed the name ʿĀṣiyah (“disobedient”) and said: “You are Jamīlah.” In Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim the woman is a daughter of ʿUmar; other reports name Jamīlah bint Thābit, ʿUmar’s wife, and Ibn Ḥajar notes that both may have been renamed.
