وَقَالَ أَبو حَنِيفَةَ: البَرِيرُ أَعظم حَبًّا مِنَ الكَبَاث وأَصغر عُنقُوداً مِنْهُ، وَلَهُ عَجَمَةٌ مُدَوّرَةٌ صَغِيرَةٌ صُلْبَة أَكبر مِنَ الحِمَّص قَلِيلًا، وعُنْقُوده يملأُ الْكَفَّ، الْوَاحِدَةُ مِنْ جَمِيعِ ذَلِكَ بَرِيرَةٌ.
